Modern & Jazz Dance

We follow the ISTD Modern exams as well as the ISTD Jazz awards.

Modern dance is rooted from Musical Theatre and originated in America. The syllabus includes high kicks, leaps, turns and travelling steps. You need to have strength and flexibility for this class. We follow the set syllabus which has been carefully created for children aged 5 upwards, and allows children to improve on both the strength and flexibility through the Grades. Children will be encouraged to take their exam although this is not compulsory we see them as a positive way of recognising the children’s had work and progression.

We also run Jazz classes which also follow the ISTD syllabus for Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards, these are fun and short exams the children can take and if successful they are award either a Bronze, Silver or Gold medal. The Jazz awards include some lyrical and Contemporary style as well as some hip hop too. We try combine this syllabus into our Contemporary lesson as something the children can work towards and achieving if they  would like to do this as well as performances.
